Military Technical Museum Lešany

257 42 Krhanice

Between the villages of Krhanice and Lešany near Týnec nad Sázavou, the exposition of the Military Technical Museum of the Military Historical Institute Prague has been located in the area of the former artillery barracks since 1996. The collections are presented to the general public in nine halls, under six shelters and in the open air.

Currently, it consists of more than 700 historic tanks, cannons, motorcycles, armoured vehicles, trucks and passenger military vehicles dating from 1890 to the present day. The size and composition of its collections, which include many of the world's most unique items, make it one of the most important European institutions of its kind.

Particularly unique is the collection of Czechoslovak military vehicles from 1918-1939 and the collection of cannons of the Škoda system. The museum's exhibition concept is in line with modern trends in the presentation of technical collections. From the very beginning, the British museums have been the model, setting the pace for contemporary developments in this field of museum science.

The museum's technology is housed in ten halls, under six shelters and in the open air.The collections are unique in their size and composition and rank among the most important European institutions of their kind. Every year, at the opening and during the summer season, the Lešany Museum Arena hosts events related to the presentation of military equipment in motion: in May - the opening of the season, in August - Tank Day.

Little boys turn into brave soldiers here, at least in their dreams. Their fathers and grandfathers come here to reminisce. But there is something for everyone here, even if the uniforms or the cold steel of the weapons mean nothing to them. You can see the legendary Tatraplane, the Jawa 250 "Perak" or the Skoda Tudor. And if one day is not enough for you, come again. The museum is open from June to September, and it's free!

In addition to the Military Technical Museum Lešany, the Military History Institute Prague also includes the Army Museum Žižkov (http://www.vhu.cz/cs/stranka/armadni-muzeum/) and the Kleby Aviation Museum (http://www.vhu.cz/cs/stranka/letecke-muzeum/).
